Prior to being named President in 2008, Phil held high-level positions at both MSNBC and NBC News, including Senior Vice President at NBC News, where he was responsible for America’s number-one morning program, “TODAY,” and Vice President of Primetime Programming for MSNBC.

During his tenure, Phil produced and launched programs including, “Hardball with Chris Matthews”; “Internight,” hosted by Tom Brokaw, Katie Couric, Bryant Gumbel, Bob Costas, and Bill Moyers; “The Big Show with Keith Olbermann,” and “PoliticsNation” with Al Sharpton.

Before becoming an executive producer at MSNBC, Phil was the senior broadcast producer of "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.” He traveled extensively for the show, including to Somalia, Moscow, and the Middle East in connection with major breaking news events. In 1995, Phil headed up NBC News’ coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial.

“Phil brings deep leadership experience from his 25 years at MSNBC, which he helped build into one of the nation’s leading cable networks,” said C Street Founder and CEO Jon Henes. “We could not be more fortunate to have him join our Board of Advisors and lend his expertise for the benefit of C Street’s clients.”

Phil serves on the Board of Directors of the National Action Network, one of the country’s leading civil rights organizations. He holds a B.A. in English from Vassar College.
