
Brian Mathis
Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer
With extensive experience across finance, government, and politics, Brian co-founded C Street to help business leaders achieve maximum value through the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Brian is a founding partner of Pine Street Alternative Asset Management and deeply experienced in hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital.
Previously, he was a Co-Managing Partner of Provident Group Asset Management, LLC (PGAM), where he was a member of the investment committee and primarily responsible for portfolio construction and capital raising; a Managing Director at Advent Capital Management, where he was responsible for business development and the marketing of multi-strategy, credit and convertible hedge fund strategies; a Director at Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO), where he was a member of the investment management committee, evaluating directional hedge fund strategies and portfolio asset allocation and guiding strategic initiatives for the firm, including establishing PAAMCO’s London office; and a Vice President in various private equity groups at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
Brian began his career as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives Chief Deputy Whip Office of the Honorable John Lewis and in the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. He subsequently served as a political appointee of President Clinton at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Brian is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Advisory Board of the Black Economic Alliance, and the Boards of Directors of Ares/Black Creek Diversified Property Fund, NewHold Investment Corporation (NASDAQ: NHICU), and Vericast.
He received a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan Business School and a J.D./M.P.A. from Harvard Law School and the Harvard Kennedy School, respectively.
